Our Journey

Pregnancy #1

We decided to try and have a baby when I was the ripe old age of 27. We'd been married a couple of years by then and felt it was time.  Every month that went by, I started to worry more and more about why I wasn't getting pregnant.  My family doctor referred me to the Fertility Clinic here in my city.  After a few months wait to get in, I met with my new RE and went through a battery of tests.  They came back saying nothing was really wrong with me (or my husband).  I again met with my RE to discuss treatments and got a prescription for Clomid and was planning on going ahead with IUI.  Two days later I found out I was pregnant!  It had been 15 months since we began trying.  Technically, this would classify us in the "infertile" category.  Nine uneventful months later in October of 2008, I gave birth to my wonderful daughter Rowan.

Pregnancy #2
When my daughter was just over one year old, we decided it was time to try for another baby.  Seven months passed by with no luck.  Another referral back to the fertility clinic.  RE jokes about how I just needed a visit to the clinic to scare me into getting pregnant again.  Hardy-har-har.  More requisitions handed out for the full gamut of tests again.  I booked them all.....and I found out I was pregnant.  This was Harris.  Born 22-03-2011.

Pregnancy #3
I had a lot of questions after my stillbirth in regards to trying to conceive again.  My family doctor referred me once again back to my RE.  A couple of ultrasounds later and a discussion about impatience, I opted to go on Clomid and have IUI done.  It worked on the second round.  Each pregnancy I've been shocked to learn I was pregnant since I always felt my period was about to start at that time.  A few days later I went to my doc to confirm the pregnancy.  The urine test was negative.  WHAT???  That was the last thing I expected to hear.  I was sent for a beta HCG with a repeat 2 days later.  It was positive, and then more than doubled two days later just as it should.  Still pregnant!  Phew!  Thought I had dodged a bullet.  I was a nervous wreck and luckily had no problem convincing my doctor to send me for an early ultrasound.  I was 6w2d.  But I was measuring 5w3d.  There was no heartbeat.  In fact, there was no yolk sac, no fetal pole.  Just an empty gestational sac.  I had what was called a blighted ovum.  More beta HCG's.  Not doubling every two days.  A follow up ultrasound one week later to confirm the pregnancy wasn't progressing.  Waited for my referral to the Early Pregnancy Loss clinic to discuss my options, since it didn't appear I would miscarry on my own anytime soon.  Opted to take the Misoprostol and hope for the best.  I miscarried the pregnancy a few hours later.  Consumed with devastation once again....December, 2011.

Pregnancy #4

Pregnancy #5
I had done 2 cycles with Femara and IUI, neither of which worked.  I was on a 2 month break from the drugs, waiting to start an IVF cycle when I got another BFP.  The next day I took another test and it was a weak positive.  The following day, another pregnancy test showed a negative result.  I got my "period" a week later than expected.  December, 2012.
